Seattle is the largest city within the state of Washington, and largest in the Pacific Northwest. For its environmental sustainability and positive governmental practices, the city has often been named among the top “smart cities” in the country. Some of the most famous American company’s have their headquarters in Seattle, including Starbucks, Amazon.com and Nordstrom department stores. The city also has one of the most recognizable landmarks in the form of the Space Needle tower, which was built in 1962 for the World Fair. Seattle is also famous for having the highest population of college educated citizens of any major American city. As far as academic institutions in the metro area, the University of Washington highly regarded and has one of the top medical schools in the country. The city also has three professional sports teams in soccer, football, and baseball. Homes in Seattle, Washington are collectively among the most expensive in the country. Rental properties in Seattle are dually high in price and account for about half of residencies.
